Scion Esports 10th Anniversary Celebration featuring Halo Infinite

Everything below this line is our “first look” at the event… It’s all still legit information but you can get a lot more details at the actual event site by clicking this big button:

Scion Esports was born on November 23rd, 2011 when Lake Charles Scion put on the Lake Area StarLeague StarCraft II Thanksgiving Invitational… but it really came to life with the Lake Charles Scion Thanksgiving Open 2012, which featured Halo 4 less than a week after the game launched. The event was over 10 hours of couch-co-op style Halo on eight big screen TVs in the showroom of Lake Charles Toyota… mostly during business hours.

We’ve come a long way in the 10 years since, but looking back, we felt like there was no better way to celebrate 10 years than to go back to our roots… Halo.

So on January 29th and 30th 2022, we’ll be setting up the biggest Halo tournament Louisiana has ever seen, and the biggest Scion Esports first party event in our history.

Here’s a little first look at what’s to come:

The Venue:

Lake Charles Civic Center Exhibition Hall

900 Lakeshore Drive

Lake Charles, LA 70601

The Games:

This event will include multiple games, currently we are exploring the lineup of what to include in addition to Halo Infinite. We want to select games that will synergize well with the Halo fanbase. Currently we are looking at including Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Madden NFL 2022 as side-events. Official announcements of side-events as well as the rules and how to register for them will come when the final decisions are made.

The Format:

The main event will be a Halo Infinite 4v4 Multiplayer LAN, with in-game settings matching HCS as closely as possible. We strongly recommend you read the “Designing the Halo Esports Ecosystem” blog on HaloWaypoint to get the feel for what 343 Industries and the Competitive Insights team are trying to create with the competitive multiplayer experience in Halo Infinite. We will release more info about game settings and specific rules once the game is released on December 8th. The entire event will be played onsite at the Lake Charles Civic Center.

We will be using Challonge and our Discord server to orchestrate the entire event. You can get a head start on preparing for the event by joining our Challonge Community and our Discord Server by clicking the links above.

The event will consist of a first phase of Round Robin pool play, in which each team will play a series of games against all the opponents in their pool. The results of the pool phase will be used to seed a double elimination tournament.

The Hardware:

In the interest of attempting to align with the HCS philosophy, this event will be produced fully cross-platform and cross-input. That means you and anyone on your team can play with your own Xbox Controller or mouse and keyboard and USB headset, or you can use our controllers, headsets, and keyboards.

The game stations will be a mix of Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC. Each player within one game will be playing on identical hardware, but from station to station the hardware will vary. The main stage game station will be state-of-the art AMD PCs that far exceed the specs necessary to play Halo at 120FPS at 1920x1080. As the tournament goes on, the lower performance PCs and Series S stations will be eliminated and only the top performing PCs and Series X stations will be used. Any USB mouse, keyboard, controller, or headset may be used on any of the stations. We recommend you bring your own, but it’s not required, we will have plenty for you to use.

How To Register:

Registration is open on our Challonge Community! Go check it out. For maximum functionality and enjoyment of the event, create an actual team on Challonge and join our Discord.
