More complete details of the Scion Esports Decathlon will be released on May 1st, 2025.

the basics:

The Scion Esports Decathlon is a meta-tournament organized by Scion Esports consisting of a series of online and LAN events featuring dozens of esports franchises that will run through the remainder of calendar year 2025 and into Q1 of 2026. The goal of the season structure is to aggregate a team’s participation and performance in dozens of local and online esports events into an overall score. Any tournament organizer who would like their event to qualify for Decathlon points can check a few simple boxes to ensure their production methods qualify, and we will include their events in our season. There will also be a few first-party “major” LAN events included in the season which will be worth the most points.

Scoring for each event (and each separate title within an event) will be based on a matrix devised by us that intends to represent many qualities of an event in a discrete numerical score:

  • the type of event (online or LAN)

  • the scale of event (major event or community event)

  • the category of the game (fighting, strategy, shooter, etc.)

  • the number of players it takes to participate

  • the base difficulty of participating

  • the complexity/difficulty of producing a tournament for the event

  • general applicability as a spectator esport

  • other intangible qualities

Performance during the season will qualify teams into a into a ten game, ten team tournament at CyPhaCon 2026 on April 10th-12th 2026. The teams that qualify for the Decathlon LAN at CyPhaCon will have their convention passes and some additional expenses paid for by Scion Esports and will compete for a substantial grand prize. Teams that consistently participate in Decathlon events may qualify for convention passes and backstage access even if their team doesn’t make it into the top ten.

Teams may have up to ten players. There is no minimum number of players on a team, but many of the franchises included in the season will be team games, so a certain number of players will be required for participation in order to be eligible to score points in that event.

Points are awarded based on events featuring game franchises, not specific games. So any game within a franchise will qualify for points based on its franchise. For example, tournaments featuring Smash Melee, Project M, etc. all count as “Super Smash Bros.” franchise, any of the dozens of Call of Duty games count as “CoD”, same for Mortal Kombat, Halo, etc.

There is no requirement to participate in all, or any certain number of events. The more events your team participates in, but the more points it is eligible to score. The Decathlon rewards participation and performance over whatever range of competitions interest you and your teammates!

The Decathlon is going to be a significant logistical investment and will have substantial benefits and prize pool. The dollars and cents aren’t finalized yet but there will be an team entry fee… but Early Bird team registration is FREE until May 31st!

ARE YOU AN ORGANIZER THAT IS INTERESTED IN HAVING YOUR EVENT QUALIFY FOR DECATHLON POINTS?:

The Decathlon season is designed to improve overall engagement and participation with ongoing esports events. Any tournament organizer is welcome to apply to have Decathlon Points awarded for participation and performance at their events. You can use this to drive engagement with your events and hopefully boost the attendance and the competition level. Applying for Decathlon points may also qualify your events for Scion Esports hardware and marketing assistance! We just have a few basic principles you have to adhere to in order to have your event considered for inclusion in the Decathlon. Full details will be released on May 1st, but in the meantime here are some of the general principles:

  • Players in your events must have a reasonable probability of attending CyPhaCon 2026, so your events need to have a general regionality, ideally we are targeting Southwest Louisiana, Southeast Texas events, but we think anything 250 miles of Lake Charles, LA is reasonable. It’s not an exact qualification so if you are a little farther away but still want to participate, let us know.

  • If you charge any fees to play, you cannot raise your prices to reflect Decathlon points being awarded.

  • If you request any hardware or marketing assistance from us, we most review and approve your pricing structure, including any fees you collect from players or spectators. This includes anything you charge people to play including “venue fee” or any other fee that doesn’t go 100% to the prize pool.

  • Your event must feature one of the titles we are including in the Decathlon. The list isn’t finalized and published yet, but chances are good your game is covered, we have over 50 titles in over a dozen categories included so far.

  • You must complete an official application in advance attesting to your compliance with the terms and agreeing to the points your event is eligible for.

  • You must make the Decathlon details (points that teams are eligible to earn in your event) available to players where ever you describe the details of your event.

  • You must complete an official report (which we will provide) of the points that should be awarded to any participation teams within 24 hours of the conclusion of your event.

  • You must include the official “Scion Esports Decathlon” assets in your branding, but not include Decathlon or Scion Esports in the name of your tournament. This is to ensure that it is clear that you are producing the tournament, not us. Specific instructions as to how to properly brand a Decathlon qualifying community event will be released in the near future.
