CyPhaCon Mini Gaming Update
CyPhaCon Mini is getting close and we’re really excited for the big weekend to get here, but we’re having to make some changes to our gaming lineup. Mostly that means we’re responding to lack of interest in some games by adjusting the lineup to hopefully better align with what our fans want to play. Also we’re streamlining our hardware to focus on consoles, and showcase our Xbox Series X collection and allow players who might not have been able to get their hands on one yet to check it out first hand.
Here’s the details:
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Singles and Doubles) - No changes… but this is already the biggest Smash tournament in Louisiana history and the singles bracket is filling up at a steady pace. Be sure you’re pre-registered if you plan on playing… Don’t plan to wait until you get to the con, there might not be any spots left and you might have to just be a standby and cross your fingers for a no-show! Tekken 7 - No changes to format, schedule may be adjusted to accommodate new content.
Guilty Gear -Strive- - No changes to format, schedule may be adjusted to accommodate new content.
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl - No changes to format, schedule may be adjusted to accommodate new content.
Call Of Duty: Warzone - The Call of Duty tournament is changing formats from an online Warzone Battle Royale competition to an in-person Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War traditional multiplayer tournament with four man teams. You must have a full team to enter and you must have a pass to CyPhaCon to get in to play in the tournament. The entire tournament will be played exclusively on Xbox Series X hardware so you must own the game on the Xbox ecosystem to play on your own account and use your own perks and loadouts, etc. We will have company accounts you can play on but they will be Level 1 accounts and will not have any progression based unlocks, and you will have to play with the default loadouts.
League Of Legends - cancelled due to lack of interest.
StarCraft II: Legacy Of The Void - cancelled due to lack of interest.
Overwatch - cancelled due to lack of interest.
Dragonball FighterZ - cancelled due to lack of interest.
Street Fighter V - cancelled due to lack of interest.
New Game: Madden 2022 - The game looks fantastic in 120hz HDR HD on the Xbox Series X, and there’s a lot more overlap between jocks and nerds than there used to be… Plus the Saints are playing that evening and we have a 20’ video wall to watch the game on, so we figured this would be as good a time as any to introduce a sports game to our lineup. If it goes well we may venture out into NBA2K and FIFA in the future. Madden will be played on Xbox Series X hardware so you must own the Standard Xbox Series S|X version of the game or the MVP Edition to play on your own account. We will have company accounts you can play on if you do not own the appropriate version of the game but no extra time for customization/personalization will be guaranteed.
We are currently discussing how best to adjust the schedule to best accommodate the new games while still maximizing broadcast time for our main event and providing the best experience for enjoying our live entertainment. The event schedule and website will be updated this weekend to reflect the new games and formats. Refunds will be issued ASAP for the small number of players who have already registered for the cancelled games.
